ABOUT
My Lace Project
The Lace Project preserves and repurposes handmade vintage lace and fine fabrics, transforming them into contemporary art.
Working with lace, one of the earliest forms of female artistry, connects me to generations of women—including my own grandmothers—who expressed their creativity through bobbin and needle lace.
Every thread in these pieces remains visible, a testament to the time and care invested in their creation, often over a century ago. My works preserve more than craftsmanship: they carry the conversations, emotions, sadness, and joy absorbed into them during their making. Each piece becoming a tapestry of not just skill, but also the lives, stories, and feelings of those who created these delicate fabrics.
The Lace Project honours this legacy by transforming handmade vintage lace into contemporary art, crafting aesthetically appealing pieces for modern interiors. Each unique work celebrates femininity, resilience, and subtle beauty.
My technique breathes new life into the intricate patterns by applying acrylic paint to lace on canvas, with a focus on how mixed pigments reflect light. This interplay of light and colour accentuates the original handwork, creating a sense of continuity and harmony between past and present. Metallic paints further enhance the details, adding a luxurious, festive touch often associated with lace.
Each piece reflects the timeless artistry of women and the enduring beauty of their craft, threaded with the stories and emotions that live on in my canvases.
